I am currently a junior at Menlo College pursuing an International Business Management degree. I chose to pursue in business because I want to work in the nonprofit industry. I found the love for nonprofits while I was volunteering in high school. I participated in every community service club in my high school. I accumulated over a thousand of service hours within three years. I realized that I really enjoy and have the passion for helping others. I wanted to keep this passion for my future career. Without much help with my college direction, I decided that business was the only way for myself to lead the nonprofit industry. Business is essential to what makes the world go around. It’s something I can take with me with whatever I do and help better understand how the world functions. I only have one more year left so I plan to graduate in 2018. After graduating with a B.A. in business, I want to take a break for a few months and then enter into the Peace Corps. Participating in the Peace Corps has been one my goals since high school because I want to gain hands-on experience and knowledge from other cultures and help communities in need. After the Peace Corps, I hope it brings me opportunities of travel and learning about people. I fear for my future because I don’t know what lies ahead of me concerning my career and jobs. I participate in survivor programs because I want to be the best person I can be. There are many challenges and obstacles in life and being a burn survivor can add more challenges. These events help me face and overcome these challenges. Without these programs, I would have never become the person I am today. I have learned to challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone and do what scares me. I took an internship this summer that challenges me every day which is talking to strangers. I am an intern as an international charity fundraiser. I talk to random strangers every day about the cause of the charity and try to get them involved. A year ago, I could never imagine myself talking taking an internship that involves talking to different people all day. I’ve always been so scared to have to make the first step to engaging in a conversation. These survivor programs and the people who volunteer to help us is what has helped me prepare to even to take the risk of this internship. I will admit that there is a lot of aspects of my life that I’m still working on such as trust and vulnerability. It’s a working progress but without these programs, I wouldn’t even have realized it’s something I need to work on so I can be the best version of
