Penn State Football Scandal Research Paper

The Penn State football scandal rocked the sports world and dominated the headlines for months and months. The penalties placed upon Penn State are beyond anything that has ever been seen before in college athletics. I believe that all the penalties affecting the present and future football program and completely just. Although, I do not think that it is okay to punish the players of those who were not on the team from 1998-2011. The players after 2011 had nothing to repulsive acts by Jerry Sandusky or the cover-up that occurred with the Penn State Office. The program needed a strong message sent to Penn state and all other programs that they are not above the law. The NCAA showed the safety of young children is more important than the money brought by the college football program.

Penn State restored their 112 football wins that had been stripped from Sandusky and Paterno although NCAA hit Penn State with a $60 million fine to fund child abuse-prevention programs. The University must reduce 10 initial and 20 total scholarships each year for a four-year period. Sandusky was an assistant coach to Paterno for many years and he was greatly looked upon. After this scandal I think that Penn state being punished for their actions were more than okay, the athletic office of Penn state covering up and hiding what Sandusky had been doing is morally not okay. Everyone is taught right from wrong, when you lie about something there will be consequences, Penn State coved up this scandal for too long and got hit hard. Everyone who knew about this issue, all the fans and alumni lost a lot of respect for the school. The university took down the statue of Patreno.
