Life is like a soccer game in which “you miss 100% of the shots you do not take.” This means that our mistakes make us who we are, as we are able to learn and grow from them. Through soccer, I have learned many valuable life lessons, as well as learned a lot about myself through the process. What started as a hobby at four years old transformed me into the person I am today. Without it, I would have never gained some of the key components I will need to be successful in life. Last time, I had hoped for the best, but ended up disappointed. This time, I went in with a more neutral mindset, as things could go either way for me. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out I had made the team. All of my hard work had paid off. The extra shooting practice, learning from my teammates, and being more physical was all worth it. I did not just give up. My failure to properly perform in these areas had caused me to become overconfident in my abilities, meanwhile I was still lacking the skills necessary to be on the team. On the bright side, many of my friends were also on the team (although they were not thrilled about it either). A huge part of a team’s performance involves cooperation with your teammates. The fact that I was already close with a majority of my teammates made it easy for us to bond as a team. Not only this, but my coach was also extremely nice and helpful on the field, which also contributed to our team’s success. Even though I was not on either of the top teams (Varsity or Junior Varsity A), I still had a lot to look forward
