Life is full of many different beginnings. The beginning of a friendship, beginning of a love affair, beginning of a career, but of these beginnings one stands out, the beginning of an education. The beginning of an education is so important because it sets the standard for the quality of every other beginning in life. A good education is the key to a great life. Higher education is so essential in my eyes because college will set the bar for how my life will play out. College will enhance my life far beyond the amount of knowledge I possess. A college education will not only effect my life but also the lives of the people around me. The skills I will learn will help me help my community and my family. This is why I have worked to better myself since middle school. I have forced myself to take the most challenging classes available, this year being calculus, in order to better my way of thinking and prepare myself for what is to come. I have learned how to be generous, kind, compassionate, and understanding which has taken many years to comprehend, and the rest of my life to perfect. Building a character that puts others before oneself is difficult and requires constant effort. Doing community service has taught me how to be patient and self-sacrificing in order to benefit the lives of others. When I was younger I would have never been able to paint someone's house with a smile on my face but thanks to my church family I have learned how to genuinely enjoy sacrificing my weekend to help another person.
