Personal Narrative: How Soccer Changed My Life

I have participated in many extracurricular activities during my high school experience. They have been both academically and athletically driven. But there’s one activity that I’ve done my whole life, which is soccer. I have played soccer since I was able to walk. Soccer has been an activity that has grown up with me in a sense. Soccer was my best friend. I played recreational soccer until I was in third grade. I’ve always loved the sport and had a drive to be the very best. When I was given the chance to take soccer to another level and do competitive soccer; I jumped at the chance. Then for the rest of my soccer career would be played competitively. On my competitive teams is where I met my best friends for life. I was only in sixth grade when I met some of my life long friends, but soccer would always be my closet friend. Soccer has definitely helped me grow as a person. It’s taught me the basic skills such as being a team player and never giving up. It’s taught me many leadership skills such as how to be a team player and to relay on others. How to speak my mind but also be able to listen others and to work together to get the win. He even needed up losing his leg. During that time I had a very hard time coping with my emotions. Soccer was my outlet during those times. I would spend countless hours just dribbling or juggling the ball. I always looked forward to soccer practice because it was the one time during the day when I didn’t have the time to think about my dad. I was able to release all my emotional stress and work on my soccer skills. Soccer really helped me as in a way of coping with stressful situations in life.
