After taking the strength finder survey, I learned that my top five strengths were Responsibility, Learner, Relator, Arranger and Maximizer. These strengths relate to my twenty year career with my current employer. By using these strengths, I have been able to advance my career to my fullest. I began my career in an entry level position and now I am the Chief Operations Officer or second in command.
Responsibility is my number one strength and it forces me to take psychological ownership for things I commit to whether small or large (Clifton, 2006). This strength has assisted my career over the years by learning the ERP system above and having the ability to teach others how to use the system. However, my largest use of this strength is what I am currently doing today and that is completing my degree in organizational leadership. This task is playing a large role in my career as when I am able to learn something new, I look how to apply this new knowledge to my organization.
My third strength is Relator, my dependencies on relationships drive who I converse with and it also has allowed me the correct relationships to advance my career over the last twenty-two years. This strength has helped me obtain new colleagues over my tenure. My relationships provide me with avenues to look for ways to accept risk and rely on people to assist with the solutions to problems. I plan on using this strength going forward in my new role by meeting new people and developing strong influencers to assist with our state legislators.
