My personal philosophy for ensuring student success includes promoting ownership of learning, communicating high expectations with students and parents, actively monitoring progress throughout the year and using data to implement successful interventions. I believe teaching students to be self-motivated learners who actively participate in their learning is key to student success. I encourage students to set their own goals, find ways to meet their goals, as well as reflect on their academic performance in class. I believe celebrating student’s strengths is the most important part of motivating and sustaining excellence in academic performance. A strategy I used during student teaching was holding post test “class meetings” in which the students formed a circle to discuss the results of their assessments. Working on this campus, I was able to take part in data meetings in which discussed, analyzed, and interpreted data to implement successful intervention plans. District level benchmark assessments, mock STAAR, and STAAR were each assessed in a data meeting by members of the school including grade level teachers, the school principal, vice principal, and intervention specialists in math and reading. During the data meetings, we analyzed results at the district, school, grade, class and student level. The data reports provided detailed student level results for each assessment including the student answer selected and the correct answer for each question. This allowed the teachers to examine the strengths and weaknesses of skills taught. The data also allowed us to analyze the rationales that explain why the answer is correct and why students might have chosen each of the incorrect
