Reading and books have captured my fascination, and they have led me on new and exciting adventures for as long as I can remember. I have loved reading ever since I was a child. My mother would read stories to me from a small children’s book she had. Books allowed my imagination to soar to new heights, and they aided me in improving my vocabulary as I grew older. Reading has allowed me to create strong, long-lasting bonds with many people throughout my life, including my mother, teachers, and friends. I often use the imaginative nature I have gained from reading to take my mind off of the things that trouble me and plague my thoughts with doubts and worries. Maxwell, often encouraged her students to find books that interested them. At least once a week, she read a book to the students in order to inspire them to read more captivating stories. Fiction books such as Junie B. Jones and Disney Fairies, were Mrs. Maxwell’s favorite stories to read to her class, and they soon became my favorites as well. I began reading as many of those books as I could get my hands on, as well as many other books that peaked my interest. My fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Tudor, also urged her students to discover books that they enjoyed so they would continue reading. She motivated my classmates and I to challenge our skills by reading higher level books, which improved my vocabulary and allowed me to explore a wider variety of books. The words of the author paint a mental picture of a different land, world, or even universe where I can escape from reality for a short time. I often ‘live in my head’ so to speak, and I use the imaginative nature I have gained from books to create captivating fabrications away from the anger and darkness of the real world. Reading takes me away from the hellish nightmares of reality and the dreary thoughts it concocts in my mind. I greatly appreciate everything my mother and my teachers did for me because reading has helped me get through countless times when life's torment, such as my father’s constant anger and yelling, dragged me down and made me feel worthless again.
