Studying as abroad in Zaragoza could give me the chance to grow as a person and learn things I never knew before. I hope to define myself as someone who is independent, passionate about traveling and the Spanish culture and open to exploring new things. I believe that I already have potential for some of these qualities and I know I posses a few, but actually being in Spain can allow me to enhance them further and learn more about myself. Without my family I would be forced to make my own decisions and do things for myself like figuring my way around town and balancing schoolwork along with the challenges of settling into a new country. In Chicago my family is a big help to me in facing obstacles but I would like to really prove myself in being able to achieve things completely on my own. …show more content…

When I was younger my mom always told me that the best education you can receive is through experiencing the world and I took it to heart. While I could educate myself about certain aspects of the history and culture of Spain here in the U.S, it could never compare to being there. To be able to learn about Spanish history and life through seeing it in person and meeting Spanish people rather than just reading about it in a textbook is something that is irreplaceable. This form of learning would help me become more open minded to different foods, culture, and ways of thinking not only during my year abroad but after as well.
