Who or What Influenced You to Begin your Martial Arts Training?
My brother influenced me to begin martial arts. I used to watch my brother do martial arts. I was always intrigued by the uniformity of the techniques. After watching my brother, I’d come home and try to imitate him. I would try to perform the same moves. My parents watched my interest in martial arts develop. Once I was old enough, they decided to let me start martial arts and get a proper training.
2. What Benefits Were You Hoping To Gain By taking Martial Arts? Were there any Benefits You Gained that You Did Not Know that You Would Gain?
I was quite young when I started martial arts. It was just a fun activity for me. I did not know that it would teach me so many things. Later on, I realized that there were many benefits I gained from martial arts. I learned how to defend myself in multiple situations. I learned how to stay focused on a task. For instance, in the classes, I knew that for 45 minutes, only martial arts matters. Martial Arts taught me to persevere. To be specific, if I cannot do a certain technique, I know that it isn’t going to help me to give up. I need to keep practicing. I came up with techniques I wanted to use. But, I didn’t know how to put them together. The instructors helped me a lot with this. Once I came up with my open form, I was nervous to perform it in front of a crowd. I had never done anything like this. Though I had performed before, it was usually something that was created before like a form. When I performed my open form, I lost my nervousness after seeing all the support everybody was giving me. To add on, I had to improve my sparring. After trying all sorts of combinations, I found the combinations that worked the best for
