When I was deciding my careers to research, I used the recommendations from Naviance. I chose aerospace engineering because it was at the top of the list of considerable preparation, and seemed not extremely general or specific. It was also a type of engineering, of which I have considerable interest in. To me, engineering is solving problems, something that I enjoy doing to test my brain. I believe that math is one of my strong suits as well, and aerospace is a word that heavily implies math. I chose Industrial engineering for a similar reason. I chose materials science because it seemed similar to engineering, however it have slightly less math, and more science. The two subjects are very similar, so I wanted to see how a scientist …show more content…

All of the careers that I chose to research are those which I believe mainly consists of solving problems. I would envision the first five years as an aerospace engineer as learning how things work and industry standards. I would most likely not work by myself, and instead be working with people who would be much more experienced than me. The next ten years, I would be one of the people with experience, and therefore be able to lead projects and help give experience to those who have less than me. My personality type, ISTJ, means that I would give all of my effort to create a project as efficiently and accurately as possible, which I believe is ideal in a job about solving problems. My problem solving workstyle also fits the industrial engineering. I would imagine the first five years being similar to that of an aerospace engineer, just in a different industry. The next ten, however, would be spent less on designing things that don’t exist, but improving on and making current technology more efficient. As an ISTJ, I desire efficiency, and I feel as though this workflow would work well for me. Materials science is the odd job out of the three I chose. However, it still fits in with my personality because it would involve working with chemicals as well, as opposed to strictly math. Chemicals, like math, are extremely predictable. My personality type enjoys stability and predictability, and a job that involves creating something predictably matches it
