Personal Statement: A Career As A Career

Out of all of the jobs in the Natural Resources and Agriscience career pathway, the job I chose was a park ranger. This job stood out to me because you get to work outdoors in some of America’s most beautiful parks. This career requires a bachelor’s degree in natural resources, conservation, or another related field (Career Cruising, 2018). It usually takes up to four years to complete a bachelor’s degree. After completing a bachelor’s degree most parks offer on the job training to new rangers that lasts six to eight months (Career Cruising, 2018). During this training park rangers learn the layout of the park and their job duties. Some good colleges to attend for this career are The University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment, Michigan State University, and Michigan Technological University- School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science (Ruiz, 2018). In order to be a park ranger other skills are required such as, good instincts, fitness, the ability to work alone, and survival skills (Kielmas, 2018). Instincts are needed in order to realize dangerous situation. Physical and mental fitness is also a necessary skill needed to be a park ranger, since park rangers work outdoors they must be physically fit in order to perform their jobs, they must also be mentally alert. At entry level the hourly wage is $28.70 and the annual salary is $59,700, an experienced park ranger makes about the same at $59,710 annually (Career Cruising, 2018). The least you could make annually as a park ranger is $30,000 and the most you can make annually is $80,000 (Career Cruising, 2018). As a park ranger, salary is dependent on education and level of experience, as you gain more experience your salary
