An artist's mind is restless, forever in search of new ideas and gaining inventiveness from everything around them. As an aspiring designer, I am perpetually in search of new inspiration and expanding my mind with ideas. Growing up as a kid in the Middle East, I never could fully express myself as a person; I felt confined on evolving as an individual because of the bubble I was living in. Having those restrictions as a kid made me divert away from my culture quietly and gave me an innate yearning to long for something more. They say that you gain your early influences from your roots, but it was hard for me to indulge in the beauty of it when I felt caged in. From my viewpoint, acquiring knowledge and keeping an open mind is a great way to be able to connect with anyone you come across. It gives you a better understanding of the world around you and helps you connect on an interpersonal with people. Being located in The Hague I will be able to surround myself with art and history at every step I take, drawing inspiration from architecture and beauty. In addition, The Netherlands is a very progressive European country with a modern approach to design, creation, and technology. The program at the Royal Academy seems to be the perfect opportunity to interface with other cultures, learn other languages, work under a different educational system, and enrich my overall experience. I believe that one's environment is where it helps you grow not only academically, but as a person. Aside from being inspired by a new setting, learning hands-on design techniques, engaging in research, and being with people who are familiar with the industry will give me an eye-opening experience as it will help me build myself. Having an open mind to discover new things and all aspects are what lead to a successful career and community, and that is what the Royal Academy is all about. Part of design is not being afraid to ask how to start with the process; again it's about community, it takes a village to assemble anything remarkable. Studying at the Royal Academy will be an exceptional experience as I will be surrounded by a collective conscious that is there for the same purpose as I am.
