“Why?” and “How can that be true?” are two questions I often ask myself as well as others around me. Exploring upper level mathematics has opened the door for me to discover those answers through mathematical concepts. The more in depth I go with mathematics, the more my urge to know and understand increases. I am writing on behalf of my application to study towards the masters degree at the University of Alabama in the Department of Mathematics. Attending the University of Alabama’s graduate program would allow me to pursue my passion for mathematics and explore even more mathematical concepts. I dream of becoming a mathematics professor and pursuing various forms of research. The University of Alabama would provide me with the education and preparation I need to pursue my dreams. …show more content…
Foundations of Mathematics introduced me to the art behind proving mathematical concepts. There is truly something incredible behind combining factual statements and axioms to acquire the truth behind a mathematical theorem. Not to mention, it is quite enjoyable, too! Foundations of Mathematics also allowed me to meet Dr. Maksym Derevyagin. Dr. Derevyagin was one of the most inspiring professors I have ever encountered. His open-door policy allows students to come and go as they please when it comes to any issues on the materials they face. I was able to have Dr. Derevyagin for Applied Modern Algebra as well. While taking Applied Modern Algebra, he gave me the opportunity to lead one of his lectures and help my classmates review material for the final examination. I love helping people, so having the pleasure of assisting my fellow classmates in understanding mathematic material was captivating for me. This allowed me to solidify my dreams of becoming a professor because I am attracted to the lifestyle of academic community and the selflessness that comes with that
