Apart from countless extracurricular I partake in within my high school community, I have also volunteered at the Toronto Durgabari (Hindu temple), Woodhall Park Care Community, worked at Yogen Fruz, as well as currently working at McDonalds. Upon my participation in organizing and planning events at my temple I was able to learn to cooperate in a large group of people in which my leadership skill were enhanced among others. After my volunteer work among my religious community, I was molded into an active citizen and built virtues including integrity, gratitude, humility, etc. In addition, after receiving my first job and being apart of a team that works together to achieve a common corporate goal not only implemented a sense of discipline …show more content…

Furthermore, one activity that has had much significance into shaping who I am today is my involvement at Woodhall Park Care Community. Essentially, as a volunteer most of my tasks and duties included interaction with the residents such as setting up activities for them to participate in, listening and talking to them, assisting them in feeding, help them commute around the facility, guide and help visiting family members, etc. As I was thrown into a very different environment for the first time I found my self perplexed pertaining what or how to appropriately act with the older residents. Soon enough, I had discovered and grown attached to numerous residents and learned that they carry an extensive knowledge towards vast subjects. What shocked me the most must be the very difference in their entity as they had experiences and knew things I had never known. This was established within the society with five statues that were created to represent and remind the people of the 5 primary virtues that they must uphold in their daily lives. These included; respect, charity, integrity, honesty, and forgiveness which together that molded and planted the notion of humanity into the community. Citizens of the society felt equal and cared for their neighbors which brought along a harmony and peace. In doing so, people had seen their potential to gain success and achieve it which led to a slow demise of the values. Although it had prospered for countless generations slowly the virtues were lost among the people and this diminished the very foundation of the community. The statues had been overlooked, as instead of respect people had grown to hate and rather than embody our brothers and sisters with kindness and empathy (charity) people became selfish. The rise of this newfound era of a virtueless society had created corruption among the people but carried on unseen. Soon enough, a clear distinction between class had been made which then led to a predominant examination of all substantial differences seen within the numerous citizens.
