I knew I wanted to be in a career where I helped people and had an impact on my life. Personally I think my late father had a big part in this as I lost him when I was 10 to lung cancer, I don’t think I will ever forget the impact the nurses and doctors had on myself as well as my family. They did everything in their power to help him and that in itself is one of the reasons I want to study medicine to have an impact and help others but also as a way of repaying and honouring those who helped me in that dark time. For example, one workshop was on oncology while there was another workshop on CPR and the Heimlich manoeuvre (emergency services).This gave me basic insight into potential specialities that . I also learned what working in a medical disciplinary team looked like while professional in their field carried out a role play demonstrating this. In addition to attending this course I also began to attend St. Johns Ambulance Cadets to learn more basic first aid and what the NHS do. This gave me the chance to expand my knowledge in emergency healthcare. While on a mission to explore every aspect of the healthcare field I also attended a pathology course and although I found that it wasn’t for me it still gave me a look at what they do and how important it is to everyday medicine. During my NCS placement I worked within a care home where some of the elderly where some suffer from Dementia. This gave me a real insight to what caring for the elderly/sick looks like and it gave me a real insight into how demanding yet rewarding it could be. I’ve also had past work experience in a primary school, at first glance it doesn’t seem relevant but I learnt a lot especially how multi-disciplinary teams work and I also supported a special needs students who I helped with all sorts of academic and leisure activities.it built the skill of having the ability to connect with small
