Many people have deemed America as behind in education. As this may be true statistically, it does not take away my love for learning or my confidence in what I can achieve. I excel in mathematics and history attributable to my analytical skills, desires for a better world, and determination.

Without my detailed and inquisitive mechanism, I would not have been as successful in these two critical subjects as I am. I realized early how important the knowledge I obtain during school would greatly affect my ability to survive, accomplish my goals, and teach others. This shows the beauty and endless intricate details of math. As math is applicable to everyday life, the skills you use to solve these problems test and strengthen critical thinking abilities, which can help you with almost anything you encounter. The brain is a terrible thing to waste. If society used a larger percentage of the brain, the advancements would be phenomenal. Challenging myself helps me to exercise more of my mind capacity because after learning a new method or type of problem, I’ve gained knowledge that I can apply to anything. Statistics, one of my favorite math topics, also ties into history, the other subject that I excel in, through demographics that can help issues like voting, housing, and the economy. I have never liked history until I took Advance Placement US History. I always thought I was not good in it and I complained about how boring it was until my junior year. Taking this course throughout the school year and maintaining a high A, as well as passing the exam and receiving college credit, I learned that history is definitely high on the list of things everyone should know. For example, Alexander Hamilton and his three step plan to recover the economy marked a tremendous landmark in history that we still use today. However, in order to do this, he had to know how numbers would work out along with the other aspects. Being that numbers are in everything, the skills used in math can be applied to many aspects of life. Knowing and understanding history is also very important to culture and the future. Although some things are inescapable, it is essential to know the past in order to not repeat it. I don’t take pride in everything that occurred in the history of the United States, however, with the knowledge of it, I am empowered with the courage to stand up for what I know is right. I want to use my awareness to change laws and educate people, especially children, and equip them with the armor of education. I want to promote, teach the right things, and change the world.
