Mathematics has always been the subject that I adored the most out of all my subjects. This could be mainly because Maths was more about understanding and solving problems than memorising. Also because when I first started primary school at the age of eight, I had no knowledge of the English language, whereas I understood the basics of maths as it is universally the same. Ever since my first day at school I have looked up to teachers as my role models. This was due to the fact when I felt like I was thrown at the deep end with no knowledge of English, my teachers always found a way to communicate with me. This gave me the motivation to become a teacher and help make a change. From first-hand experience I was able to acknowledge the massive effect teachers have on young people's lives. Studying modules such as Problem Solving, Algebra and Calculus in my Maths degree for the last 3 years has also had an effect on my choice of wanting to teach Maths.
In my fourth year of secondary school, I chose to do work experience at my local primary school for a week. I assisted the teacher with the daily class routines. This involved dividing the class into …show more content…

During this period of work experience I was assigned to different classes. I was able to participate and assist the young students with the work they struggled on. At times I was able to mark their homework as well as plan some classes for the younger age group. I walked them through examples, asked them to complete the answers in their notebooks then getting volunteers to come up to the smart board and write up the answer. I was also my school house prefect therefore I was available during lunch times and after school in the canteen for help the pupils required.
