My favorite video was Tim Bedleys. I really enjoyed his approach to teaching the children. From the beginning he explained to the children the problem at hand, which was the class was not reaching consensus. He did so in a way that enabled the children to comprehend the problem, and established that he wanted the class to resolve the problem. He also maintained the class very well during the group activities by previously assigning roles. Roles like timekeeper, table leaders, and recorders. These jobs kept the students on task throughout the entire process and also made them more involved in the learning process. He also created a very positive learning environment by creating little phrases as a class. This is a fun way to have a bond with the students so that they can be involved with the learning process and also know when to move from one activity to the next. He also makes sure his students understand the directions by simply having them …show more content…
The students were very much involved in the learning process during this video, and were able to draw conclusions on their own. I like that they were rewarded for their positive behavior and how creative movie minutes are! Bedley also did a wonderful job at maintaining the classroom during group activities. The class was always on task and was able to come up with multiple options to reach consensus. He allows the class to lead the discussion that empowered them to become involved in the learning process. The classroom was extremely respectful of other student’s opinions and even when they disagreed were able to reach an agreement. Questions were accepted and carefully considered in his classroom. The overall experience in his classroom is extremely positive. He promotes a positive learning experience and includes all of the students. The students are actively involved in the learning process, which does not happen
Michael has over twenty years of experience in education as a superintendent, principal, teacher, and coach. He works hard to provide the best for his students, his staff, and the community while maintaining professionalism in every aspect of his life. Michael is not afraid to make tough decisions and to take a stand to implement those decisions. He is not an administrator who closes his office door. He feels a responsibility to be a part of the daily life of every building in his district.
Before this class I had never watched or heard of the film The Hunting Ground. I immediately downloaded Lady Gaga’s song to my phone. I felt I learned the most from this unit as well as feeling the most connected to what we were talking about in class. The film taught me that sexual assault on campuses is more common than I thought as well as less reported than I thought. It was shocking to learn of how colleges had ways of protecting a lot of the accused offenders, for example the athletes or fraternities.
I was very impressed and taken back that John would twirl each girl into the classroom, and would shake every boys hand. I thought that was brilliant because he is showing these little girls they are precious princesses, and teaching these boys young what respect is. His impressive interactions of the students gladly did not stop there. Every Thursday and Friday Joe does a segment called “Speak Life.” Joe was teaching his students phrases and a lifestyle from the Bible, without even telling his students.
I believe this type of well-organized schedule helps the children to know what is expected of them. Also, the hands on approach between the students and the teacher allows for individualized learning for the children. Finally, I found their purposely using open ended questions to encourage the children into thinking for themselves during the Choice Time to be an excellent teaching method. 2. Provide a descriptive personal or professional observation that is similar to the concept you selected from the video (use initials in place of a child’s name).
Personally, I really enjoy the sizes of the classes. I have never had a class with over twenty-five students in it. Brebeuf doesn 't shy too far away from twenty-five. I also thought the way the “free blocks,” were set up was interesting. I thought it was neat how the student got to choose what they were going to do with that time.
acklin has many moments where he is absolutely delightful, helpful and engaged in his learning however there continue to be moments where Macklin; unfortunately does not see himself as a learner. Macklin needs constant reassurance and attention in the classroom. He has however made many social advances this year which has been pleasing. He is much more willing to work with others whom he finds challenging. Macklin's complex needs in the school environment make it difficult to gain an accurate assessment of where he is really at.
Another girl says, “He is a fun teacher, but he also makes us get our work done. He also makes class fun and makes it easy to learn.” Another female student chimes in and says, “He’s honest, and he cares about people. He’s funny. He loves Jesus, and he wants other people to know Jesus loves them.”
During my fieldwork process, I learned a lot about my student, Sedaya. Over a six-week period I got to spend time with her and learn about her likes and dislikes at school and at the hospital she lives at. To begin, I learned that Sedaya is very good at memorizing information and answering questions. While completing her homework at the hospital she was able to answer basic questions both verbally and using her ipad. She enjoyed telling me about her work.
With the help from his students, their families, colleagues, and members from the community he learned how to be warm, empathetic, and genuine.
Classroom standards, academic language, and classroom discourse would be in my classroom according to my teaching philosophy of all students having an equal learning opportunity. Characteristics in the videos watched that I would like to emulate would be keeping classroom discourse on an academic level. Using appropriate language will help the students and teachers show and have respect for each other. Having clear goals set for each class academically will help lesson planning stay directed to the student’s success. In a video, students gave a speech and then the class did a reflection on how that student did on their speech is something I would like to incorporate into my classroom to help students gain self-confidence and provide classroom discourse.
In the beginning of the film, a math teacher lets many students solve one problem on the board and the students learn more than one technique and see mistakes along the way. This way students are engaged and the teacher is there to observe and tell them what’s wrong rather than the teacher lecturing the whole time. In addition to students learning from their mistakes, there were three other things that got my attention during the film. I was shocked to see that they have small class sizes.
I feel that the class lesson was successful overall. Through creating the lesson with my group and by actually teaching it, I learned a lot about my skill set. I also gained a deeper understanding of the story of Noah’s Ark and of the section of The Grapes of Wrath in which my group focused. In my group, I learned that a group without strong leadership does not function very well.
The highlight of the video to me is autonomy, mastery, and purpose. I had watched a video about it a few months ago, and was impressed by the information. Instead of the normal, do what I say because I am the boss, it transfers the authority to the person using it, even if it is an subordinate. If a boss is willing to give power to the employee through it, and will do any task they ask of the employee, they will get better results (Kawasaki, 2011). It breaks down to freedom, the ability to be the best one can be, and there is a good reason or higher purpose the user of autonomy, mastery, and purpose, will give their all.
Student participation does not just mean listening to an instructor talk about a subject. Participation should come from a student being active in the classroom. When a student is given the opportunity to interact with the teacher, the potential for meaningful learning and
This class was a great learning experience because in so much less time we learned so many different topics. I would have probably never gotten the chance to do research on all these topics on my own time. Alone with learning about new topic we were also able to go out in the community to different learning sites and help others. My service learning site was Jacob Hiatt Magnet School, where I helped in a fourth-grade classroom. This was a great opportunity to for me to help out these children with the material they were struggling with.
