Elmhurst Scholarship Essay
Life is full of learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. I believe that every place we visit and every person we meet is a learning experience that can bring us one step closer to seeing the bigger picture that is the enormous world we live in. To me, Elmhurst College is the key to helping me piece together the vision of my future, one piece at a time.
I would describe myself a creative and logical person with an immense love for learning. I discovered my affinity for the human mind during my senior of year of high school, when I enrolled in AP Psychology. In addition to becoming involved on campus, I want to venture out of my comfort zone and form meaningful connections with people of different cultures by participating in one of Elmhurst College's two-thousand service projects, such as working with the children at the Robin Nest's orphanage in Jamaica as a part of their Urban Immersion Project. As a first-generation student from a low-income family, being able to pursue higher education is a privilege that my parents were never given. My mother came to this country to give me a better life and I want to make it up to her by giving her a comfortable life and financial security. She's immensely proud of how far I've made it by dedicating time to my studies and in being able to give back to my community by tutoring high school students in math and answering questions they have about my college experience. I can only hope that I can repay the favor by making a name for myself through my own research and prove to be someone that Elmhurst College can be proud to call me an
