Diversity is the one true thing we all have in common. From every living being on the planet to every tiny cell that makes up that single being, the need to diversify has truly been the essence that drives everything to change and a means to adapt to that change. The emerging field of Biotechnology finds its scope in diverse applications. Advances in this field over the last 20 years have generated unparalleled insight into the rapidly expanding life sciences industry. The versatility of this science, from production of transgenic plants to cancer therapy and its obvious potential to contribute to humanity, interests me wholly. I realized the significance of the biological research that underpinned much of modern biological innovations and the importance of its availability to the common man. When I reflect on my ‘purpose’ for graduate study, my mind goes back to the early school days where my profound …show more content…
I was introduced to a series of factors that influenced signal transduction processes and their effect on cellular functions. Disorders resulting from mutations and infections raised questions in my mind as to how and what effects they had on the myriad of cells and their functions. I began to understand the true complexity of the human body; dependent on unique and highly organized cells that worked together to accomplish the specific functions required to sustain life. The unabated advancements in the field of Medical Biotechnology due to Stem cell research, Gene therapy in medicine, Cancer diagnostics, vaccines and nano-molecules development, helped me realize the immense potential of this field and all that I had to offer to make further progress. I am certain that Graduate study will equip me with the necessary skills required to work towards the growing healthcare industry, where I see excellent career
