Some of my earliest memories consist of myself curled up on the couch with my family, not watching cartoons like the rest of the kids but instead the Science Channel, learning about how things work through “How It’s Made” and how to use the scientific method to perform experiments from “MythBusters”. The interest in scientific exploration that I developed along with my natural curiosity regarding the inner workings of things only strengthened as I grew older, and, coupled with my aspirations to improve the lives of others and have a positive impact on the world, led to my desire to pursue medical research. My involvement in the Monta Vista Neuroscience Club further piqued my interest in the field, advancing my knowledge regarding the different functions of the brain relating to psychology and the nervous system. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in neuroscience research, improving the lives of patients suffering from maladies of the mind through the search for treatments for currently incurable diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Through the SIMR program, I would have the opportunity to expand my knowledge concerning the details about how exactly medical research is executed, helping me to develop explorative skills that would be beneficial towards my future educational and career objectives. Involvement in specifically the neurobiology institute would allow me to gain experience in the subject matter that I plan to pursue while also demonstrating the reality faced by researchers in the field, which would be advantageous as it would give me realistic expectations and permit me to cultivate the appropriate data collection and analysis habits, observational skills, and critical thinking abilities to be successful in neuroscience
