Personal Statement
As a Religious Studies major, whose future goal is to become an Islamic Studies professor, the Presidential Internship Program at the American University in Cairo is the best opportunity to experience the vast complexities of my academic field first-hand. Nowhere else will I have the chance to live abroad at such a respected while also being immersed in Arabic, Arab culture, and African Sufi Islam. In addition to my strong interest of the inner workings of university life, the Egyptian people, and the Middle East, I know I possess the qualifications to be a successful employee, dependable colleague, and true friend to those at the university.

At Louisiana State University, my friends love to make fun of me by calling me “assertive.” While they joke about it in front of my face, hoping to stir a priceless reaction, the truth is they are right. I am constantly making sure things are getting done, and I am not shy about it. In order to accomplish goals, someone must take the initiative to make sure that tasks are being completed competently and deadlines are being met. This time management skill is how I have been able to maintain a robust GPA while being a leader in these clubs simultaneously. In addition to my officer positions, my commitment and initiative are why my previous employers promoted me to the managerial staff. At both G.H. Bass and Co., a retail store, and Drakes Catering, an LSU game day business, I always looked ahead, completed tasks that were not yet apparent, and maintained professional composure when engaging in business. I have personally catered to the needs of customers who do not speak English, who are heavily intoxicated, who are extremely frustrated, and who are incredibly courteous. Furthermore, I know how to communicate with specific groups of
