From the moment I stepped into a dental clinic as a child, I was enthralled by the importance of oral health and the role of dental professionals in fostering it. This early fascination ignited a passion within me to pursue a career as a dental hygienist, where I could not only help individuals achieve healthier smiles but also contribute to the overall general health of those in my community. My educational goals are focused on acquiring the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to excel in this field, and winning this scholarship would serve as a vital stepping stone in achieving those aspirations. Becoming a dental hygienist is more than just a career choice for me; it's a calling, rooted in my desire to make a tangible difference
I know Rochester like the back of my hand. The roads, the stoplight and most of the warm hearted people that inhabit it. That being said, I know how the community has played a supportive role in my growing up and education today. From preschool to now senior year, Rochester has pushed me to be my best self for my post secondary education. Moving on after high school, I am going to pursue a career in dental hygiene.
Not every seventeen year old can tell you what they plan on majoring in without changing their mind but not me. I’ve always been interested in teeth. I plan on studying Dental Hygiene at Northern Arizona University because I want to be exposed to more than one learning environment. When I receive my bachelors in Dental Hygiene I want to stay in Flagstaff for a couple years and eventually go back to school in order to become a dentist but I would rather be practicing dental hygiene than go to dental school for a long period of time.

In high school, I became interested in social justice work when I did a month long volunteer service trip to India.
A career as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a natural extension of my personal, educational, and research experiences. Although my path to nursing has not been a straight line, every experience that put me on this path has shaped my passion and dedication to psychiatric nursing. After losing loved ones to suicide at a young age, I made a promise to myself and to them that I would dedicate my life to helping individuals struggling with mental illness. Attacking the core of a problem solves not only that problem but others that don’t even seem to be related. Ive always been passionate about making a drastic change in people lives to better them in any way I can. As a kid it would be imagining crazy scenarios where I save people like a superhero, but as we grow older we see that superheroes, as cliché as it may sound, don’t always wear capes. These are the people impacting lives every day by simply using their knowledge to impact other’s lives for the better. This is what I hoped to do with a career in dentistry as I entered my undergraduate career.
My ambition to study for a degree in Dental Hygiene is something that has developed over several years. It all started with a presentation a group of hygiene students did in high school, that allowed me to realize that I wanted to help people by giving them an opportunity to gain self-confidence, by improving the health of their mouth and over all body. My ambition grew when I was completing a dental assistant program, then my interest kept growing the moment I worked as a dental assistant for six months, and realized I can do much more, because I still have this interest in science and on learning.
