Last night on the Tonight Show, a very special middle schooler appeared to talk about what makes them tick. His name was Saatvik Sunkavalli. Everything about his introduction was customized to fit his personality. The set was mostly ride, showing how he was passionate, intense, and adventurous. The music that introduced him was happy by Pharrell Williams.
Chapter 6 talks about communicating with your athletes. This is important because becoming a coach you must understand yourself and your student athletes on an emotional level. It’s like Coach Sanchez said “Players do not care how much you know until they know how much you care”. In this chapter it talks about different personality coaches can be. I think coaches should avoid using the judge method in coaching.
1. Introduction Trait theories focus on traits, that which is stable and relatively constant over different situations and times, as being the main indicators of personality (Prager, n.d.). The continuous aspect of traits offers a predictability of future behaviours across various conditions; thus allowing for personality archetypes to be created and assumptions to be made within the constructed archetypes. Multiple theories have been developed that establish various archetypes or models which allow people to be classified into personality types.
According to the Myers-Briggs personality type indicator, there are sixteen personality types (Robbins, DeCanzo and Coulter, 2015, p.254). As you can imagine, a mix of personalities in the workplace can be both positive and negative. It can be positive because unique personalities bring different traits and ideas into the workplace. On the other hand, it could be negative when it comes to clashing personalities that cause unhealthy and petty rivalries. I took the Myers-Briggs personality test during my first CSU-Global class and it was able assists me with understanding my personality better.
The Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) was designed by Leslie C. Morey in 1991 as an alternative for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory revised (MMPI-2) to provide relevant information to make a clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, and screening for Axis I and Axis II psychopathology in patients 18 or older. However, the PAI does offer both child and adolescent versions in which a psychologist may utilize this assessment personality on these individuals known as the PIC for children and PAI-A for adolescents. Upon administrating the PAI for the adult population, an individual can expect a duration ranging between 40-50 minutes to complete the PAI and requires a comprehensive reading level between 4th and 6th grade. The PAI assesses abnormal personality consisting of 22 scales and 31 subscales in total which contains a 344 self-report Likert questionnaire scored with a 4-point ordinal scale. Personality shows different qualities that people have and its shown in certain situations what type of person you are (own definition).
For this assignment, I will be talking about 3 of my personal strengths provided by the VIA Personality Assessment. These include “Judgment”, “Love”, and “Appreciation of Beauty/Excellence”. In this paper, I will also give a brief example of how these character strengths are being used in the workplace based on the VIA research findings. The VIA Assessment showed that my top personality trait was “Judgment”.
