I wake up in the morning at 7:00. I drag myself out of bed and walk up the stairs half asleep. I grab some cereal and grab the orange juice thinking it was milk. I decide to just throw it away and grab a poptart. I walk downstairs and get dress and grab some shoes. I barely got any sleep the night before and am half zombie. I get to school and am not in a very good mood and don’t want to learn, so I don’t try. Schools should have a later start at the of the day because it lowers the percentage of car accidents, it improves academic skills, and improves the health of the students.
Lowers the percentage of car accidents. At the beginning of the day, people are always tired and need more sleep, but wake up anyways to get to school on time. The high schoolers drive to school, but aren’t at their full attention. They could easily miss a car, run a red light, or fall asleep. These can cause major accidents and hurt people. NBCNews states, “Among students who started class close to dawn in Virginia Beach County, there were 65.4 car crashes for every 1,000 teen drivers. In Chesapeake County, there were just 46.2 crashes per 1,000 teen drivers. That’s a 40 percent higher crash rate in the county where school starts earlier.” This study shows that

Have you ever noticed that some kids don’t try in school? Some of this is because they don’t get enough sleep at night. Their brains aren’t focus on learning, they just need more sleep, which can improve academic skills for both the school and the students a lot because everyone is learning. Should School Start Later? says, “Studies show that well-rested teens get better grades, have higher standardized test score, and miss fewer days of school.” This shows that when kids get 8 to 9 hours of sleep, they improve in school all together and miss less school, which can also let them grow in their
