Homework stops students from getting this amount of sleep especially when students have extracurricular activities such as clubs or sports. These activities can cause students to be occupied to times such as 5:00 or 6:00pm. And on top of that they will get about three and a half hours of homework each day. Though sometimes homework can be even longer than that, it could go on for hours, because of larger assignments. Think, the feeling of going into nice soft bed, and it being ripped from you when you remember that you have an assignment due the next day.
They are constantly judging with the classes more important so they can pick a subject to study at home. We cannot however eliminate homework because it gives students a chance to better understand the material been taught in class. We cannot expect students to master a subject without spending extra time beyond the classroom. They need to practice the material on their own so they have a better understanding of what their pros and cons. As far with parents saying homework ruining relationships, I find it sad.
Homework is hard on teachers, but even harder on students and children some people say if kids could actually receive the mindset of actually being able to call it a day and be able to get home and have their freetime but instead they have to wait until homework is finished to start freetime a quote from “Wwhy kids under age 14 dont need homework” by Justin Coulson “Research has demonstrated that it “overwhelms struggling kids and removes joy for high achievers.” A 2002 study found a direct relationship between time spent on homework and levels of anxiety, depression, anger, and other mood disorders and issues”, this evidence shows that kids are getting excited to go home after a long day of school but when they get home they need to do homework before their finally free and that that extra bit of time spent on homework is causing stress and other issues for children at young ages and continues throughout higher grade
The first attempt and success to climb Mt. Everest occured in 1953. Since then, almost 4,000 people have been able to scale the mountain, but over 230 people have not been able to climb it successfully. There is a chance of accident or death when climbing this mountain or any dangerous activity. All people should should have the right to rescue services even if they knowingly put themselves at risk because there is always a chance of an accident happening, rangers are there to save people in danger, and there are rescue vehicles being produced to be used in case of an emergency.
No homework? What a great idea. Let’s permit American students to descend even farther behind the students in other countries who have already excelled in their academic achievements. Homework raises to become entrepreneurs…. Homework “serves as an intellectual discipline, establishes study habits, eases time constraints on the amount of curricular material covered in class, supplements and reinforces work done in school” (Source E).
Many schools in other countries spend less time in school and do not receive homework. Those schools are the ones with the highest test scores. The US is not even in the top twelve for best scores. With all the extra time students spend on school related items, such as homework, it is not helping. An article written by Sean Coughlan states that, “Pupils in England already get an average of 150 hours extra teaching per year than their Finnish counterparts.”
Although some taxpayers may think that providing summer meals for students wastes needed money that the school could use for other important issues, other people are very grateful for the meals provided over the summer and other breaks. Schools should provide summer meals for students whose parents can’t afford food for their children. If schools provided summer meals for students, then kids whose parents aren’t home can receive healthy foods instead of just junk food. When students eat healthy foods it doesn’t just keep them healthy, but it also helps them learn (Carsen).
Sounds like an ideal afternoon right? If only all schools never gave homework. Homework is used in a lot of countries and in others there isn’t any. Some people believe it helps improve grades and scores. Others think kids should not have homework because it doesn’t help them and use standardized tests to support them.
Everyday, Aeden McClellan comes home to his home in Sherwood, Oregon at 4:00 to 5:00 PM with 2 to 3 hours of Homework from school, and at least an hour of chores. With little time to do anything but work, Aeden is crushed under the weight. The average 8th grader in the United States gets 10 to 20 hours of Homework a week. Added with chores and curfews this can be very stressful for children especially when they have had prior cases of anxiety. Luckily, some schools have been changing curriculums to better benefit the students, these normally have either no homework or very little, with the option to not have it placed by the teacher.
English novelist Ian McEwan, author of the novel Atonement, once said, “And though you think the world is at your feet, it can rise up and tread on you” (Goodreads 2018) As they grow older and older, teens seem to think that they know everything about the world around them. Teens treat the world like a book, which they have read multiple times. But, they fail to realize that the real world is more complicated than what their minds think. Teens are narrow-minded and naive, which forces them to make rash and irrational decisions. While there might be some teens might be more responsible than others, most of them are careless.
Homework. It’s arguably the thing children dread the most. Children go to school for eight hours a day and then are expected to come home and do school work. Kids hate it, and parents hate arguing with their children to do their homework, but is it really all bad? James Atwater is of the opinion that homework should be banned.
A professor at the University of Toronto, Lee Bartel, studied the effects of homework on children by testing data on over twenty-thousand students and concluded with results showing that homework does indeed have the effects of causing stress and anxiety. Research preformed by Stanford Graduate School of Education examined the different effects of homework on students' well-being and discovered that students that worked on homework for longer than three hours a night are negatively impacted. It proves in a rise in stress levels along with physical health problems. Since the students are constantly bombarded with work, they have no phase during the day towards hobbies for themselves to go pump up weights in the gym to relieve stress or to play sports and fix their health problems for example. Jason Sapan, a parent of a student in White Plains, says that “it by takes the joy out of kids who are exceptional, and overwhelms those who are struggling.”
A lot of students disregard grades and homework because the homework gets too overwhelming and they just give up. Students get multiple hours of homework everyday and it becomes to much for a teen and that can cause other effects that interfere with sleeping, stress levels can get to high and can cause depression, and even make a kid give up on school. Therefor too much homework is not physically, mentally, or emotionally healthy for
Homework is an on-going topic of debate that has been being questioned for decades. In my opinion, I don’t think that homework is essential to students due to the effect it has on your mental and eventually your physical health and it is starting to affect their school life. Is the amount of work we get actually helpful to students? Is it too much for students? How is homework affecting my child?
