In recent years, the number of abortions has decreased from 1.4 million abortions in 2000 to 1.1 million in 2011. Furthermore, less than half of women who get an abortion will do so twice. This improvement is substantial, especially since the rate of abortions dropped five percent from 2008 to 2009 (“U.S. Abortion Statistics”). Still, there are 1.1 million other unborn humans who need to be saved. This means that 3,000 innocent children are murdered by their parents every day. Worse yet, the parents usually only choose abortion, because they do not have sufficient funds to support a child. We must counteract this culture of death and reach out to all the people who are contemplating abortion and present to them other options. Thomas Jefferson once said, ‘“The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government”’ (“Greatest Pro-Life Quotes”). Although this nation was founded with the intention of protecting all humans, its government maintains the legality of abortion. This said, abortion is an endemic in other nations too.
