“There were an estimated 1.21 million abortions in 2008” (Jones). In 2009 that number dropped by 5% but sadly, “Drop that number by 5% and you still get 1.15 million abortions. That’s 3,150 abortions every day” (Jones). By making abortion federally illegal, abortions will still occur however, that number will drop dramatically. Abortions should be banned not only because it is murder and because it negatively affects the woman’s body but also because it is not the only, or the cheapest, option.
Abortion should be federally illegal because it is murder. An unborn baby, more commonly known as a fetus is considered a human being by the US government. The point of this fact is not to say that a fetus is a baby just because the government says so.

The odds favor a woman regretting her abortion. In fact, “94% of women regret their decision to abort” (“Should abortion be legal”). Having to live with that regret doesn’t sound like the best option. If the woman doesn’t want her pregnancy to mess up her life then she should not choose abortion because she will be one step further from that after having an abortion. Another way that abortion negatively affects the mother is that she is at a higher risk of suicide after an abortion. The suicide rate for women who’ve had abortions is 6 times higher than women who’ve given birth (Terzo). Therefore, after an abortion, if the woman does decide to commit suicide then said abortion would be responsible for the death of two people; the woman, and the child. There are also physical side effects including but not limited to: “Abdominal pain, cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, spotting, bleeding” (“Possible Side Effects…”) There are also risks including “Persistent bleeding, damage to the cervix, damage to vital organs, death” (“Possible Side Effects…”). These could all be factors in medical implications in the future. This is yet another way having an abortion can impact the woman negatively. These are all examples of things that happen after the fact disproving the common myth that an abortion is the easiest option and will not come back to the woman in the time following the abortion. So abortion does not only lead to all of these problems, but it is also not the only option even if the woman is not financially
