Stem cells/research of any kind should not be banned because they are a method to prevent unavoidable waste of embryos in various laboratories. Multiple embryos are kept in labs for future use and research, yet many get wasted due to unfortunate circumstances. According to B.A. Robinson from religioustolerance.org, when unused, “some labs will simply discard surplus embryos”. Many religious and social groups claim that stem cells are highly unethical because, when they are used for research and medical procedures, the embryo is killed during the extraction process. Since the extraction kills the embryo, they believe it kills an actual human that has a soul, etc. However, if labs throw away the embryos, they are also killing dozens of “lives” …show more content…

The people who disagree with it claim that scientists and researchers alike are creating “super-humans”, and that they are outreaching their limits or abusing their scientific power by using/researching stem cells. However, the goal of science is to discover and create solutions for problems and answers to phenomena in our environment and society. In that case, researching and/or discovering cures for cancer and other diseases would be “outreaching their limits” since they are going beyond what is known and creating something new ; there would be no vaccines or any other forms of treatment and prevention for viruses, etc. The goal or reason for research is to make life easier and to prevent or lower the death/disease rate and increase life expectancy and morale; there is no hidden motive behind it. Furthermore, the critics of stem cell research claim that the reason that it should not be used is that the long-term effects are unknown. But like mentioned before, progress will not happen if there is not experimentation. There have not been any negative effects or outcomes of stem cell research so far, so there should not be any problem with using them for cures for disease and bodily
