In life you don't know what could happen to you; you could be sick one-day, you could be rich one-day, and the next day you could be diagnosed with cancer. Life is always unpredictable and it is better to be prepared then not to be. At any time, you could possibly be hurt or get into a bad accident. Having health insurance will help you pay for the hospital costs. My position is that all U.S. citizens should be required to have health insurance.
On average a trip to the emergency room can cost up to $1,233 (Barron), without a good healthcare provider the patient would be required to pay out of pocket, but with health insurance the cost would be shared/split with the insurance provider and potentially reduce the costs. Medical bills can catch you off guard, but with insurance it would pay for it or deduct the medical bills by a lot. After the emergency room, the doctor may need to prescribe a particular treatment such as pills or therapy. Health insurance could either deduct the price or entirely cover the cost of the prescription. Depending on the prescription the support from the insurance provider, and insurance plan, can vary.
