Even before the declaration of 1776, the United States has been the place for people to retreat for a better life. Millions have taken the voyage to this land to experience a lifestyle based off the concept of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” that the U.S. holds. The United States has quickly developed into the critical melting pot that accepted anybody that wanted to be a part due to the increasing population entering the country. Even as the years have passed, the United States still has a friendly attitude towards the millions of immigrants. However, with the amount of foreigners wanting to be admitted into the country, security has increased greatly since the times of Ellis Island. Due to this there has been an upsurge in a type of immigration that affects U.S. citizens: illegal immigration. Reducing immigration will help the United States with economic equality and providing safe and secure areas to live without the threat of terrorism. When so many immigrants enter the United States without the proper documentation there is a major threat to this country. Illegal immigrants are good at making their existence anonymous because they know what will happen if they get caught and that’s why it is so hard to recognize them in public. With the possibility of rapists, drug-dealers, or terrorists entering the country right before us, we are put into very dangerous situations and feel threatened. Nearly ninety-five percent of homicides in Los Angeles, California are reported to be illegal immigrants. This only goes to prove the possible threat standing in front of society in America.
