Has your school talked about later school times? In “Why School Should Start Later in the Morning” and “Eight Major Obstacles to Delaying School Start Times”, the articles go between later start times and keeping the schedule the same. There are many beneficial facts in both articles that talk about the idea of adjusting the start times. Keeping the same schedule or starting at an earlier time could disrupt the student’s and teacher’s schedules in and out of school. This could be proven by the risks that come with the lack of sleep (inside and out of classes), benefits of the extra sleep in school, and outside of school (family and extracurricular activities). Many families and athletes have a bad feeling about a change in their schedules, but studies have shown “...a community can easily adjust to change, especially if given ample time and resources to prepare”, says “Eight Major Obstacles to Delaying School Start Times”. In reality, there would be enough time for this change because parents, teachers and other staff members, students, and members of the community would hear the news through meetings and social media/television. For athletes, their endurance is lower at the current school start time. Teachers could also be affected in this situation; however, it could improve their teaching. “This will enable them to be more alert and energetic in the classroom and more effectively handle problems and discipline procedures.
