Animals have been exploited for many centuries in the name of science by private institutions, marketing industries, government agencies, educational institutions, and scientific centers. The use of animals in research is currently being debated to determine its efficacy. There have been many scientific proofs and failures resulting from animal research to determine its necessity. Aside from producing inaccurate results, animal testing is also a copious waste of resources and money. Animal experimentation should be halted and made illegal because it has been proven to be unreliable, wasteful and unethical in all cases. Many more successful medical breakthroughs such as the medicine for tuberculosis, which was invented after research on guinea pigs in the 1940s led to the antibiotic streptomycin, and the polio vaccine was introduced in the 1950s following the forty years of research spent on primates, mice and pigs("Medical Advances and Animal Research"). All of the medical breakthroughs listed above used animal research to help cure diseases and save lives. Medical science is not the only reason animal testing is used for. For some countries such as China, imported merchandise such as make up must be tested on animals. Many renowned commercial companies such as Covergirl and MAC, although claim they do not test their products on animals, secretly uses animal testing to check for safety and toxicity levels in their products to ship to other countries. In commercial research of animals, the subject is often experiencing extreme pain from the tested chemicals (“Galanes”). Experimenting on animals is also useful for treating animals("Animal Testing - ProCon.org"). In veterinary fields, animal research has occurred in order to create drugs and a variety of treatments for animals. One does not know the anatomy of a dog or how its blood system works without
