Animals have been used for testing and developing medicines by scientists around the world. Experimenting new chemicals and products on animals helps to test toxic chemicals and develop different treatments for humans. But what humans forgot is that animals have feelings even when they can’t voice out opinions. Animals are being used and abused for the sake of humans. While one side believes that testing chemicals on animals helps many lives, the other argues that we are intentionally ignoring animals’ physical and emotional feelings, and could lead to animals extinction. Humans are killing animals by experimenting on them in order to help us stay alive. Animal testing has been used to test chemicals for medicines and cosmetics. Penicillin, a treatment for bacterial infection, was used on mice to test if it would be affected before allowing humans to take. A research report titled “The Discovery And Development of Penicillin” by Ray Greek MD stated “How fortunate we didn’t have these animal tests in the 1940’s, for penicillin would probably never been granted a license, and possibly the whole field of antibiotics might never have been realized (para. 6).” Penicillin, an antibiotic, was able to get a license due to animal testing in 1940s as well as other kind of antibiotics. Penicillin could be used as a treatment when mice overdosed with penicillin survived. Without this experiment this treatment for bacteria would have never been developed further.
