Animal Experimentation and Testings
Do you use cosmetics or have you ever needed medicine or vaccines to cure an illness? a lot of People have, but not many people know that sometimes what they’re using, was part of an animal experiment. Every year millions of animals are dying in : Laboratories, Hospitals, Universities, and other places, due to animal experiments to test : makeup, cosmetics, medicine, vaccines , and more. Animals are mostly used in experiments because of how similar they are to humans, but there is alternatives that are more accurate and don’t involve animals. Knowing what goes on in medical and cosmetic animal testings and the alternatives is important. That way people can know what their stance on animal experimentation is. Also, there are many animals and tests that are conducted for different purposes in cosmetics , and there is many cruelty free products. So, what things are considered cosmetics? The FDA defines cosmetics as: Articles that are used on humans to cleanse, beautify, become attractive, or change the body’s appearance, without it affecting body functions such as, creams, perfumes, makeup, nail polish, shampoo, and hair color (“Fact Sheet” 1). Some example animals used for cosmetic testing include: mice, rats, frogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, dogs, cats and more animals for the purpose of testing different chemicals in beauty products. For example,”lethal dose” tests are experiments in which animals are forced to consume high amounts of a chemical to see at what dose death happens (“Fact Sheet”2).
