Imagine yourself in a clinic full of doctors and scientists. As you look around, you see needles, products, and many chemicals. You cannot run or hide. All of a sudden, a doctor comes up to you and injects your arm. You cry and yell, but he only ignores you. Your pain and words are insignificant to him. The practice of using animals for testing has been a controversial issue for quite a while now. Animal testing has been helpful to us, but is it something that we should keep doing? Although animal testing has helped scientists improve many of the products we use daily, it is unhealthy for the animals and inhuman from us.
Many people, who are unaware of the animals suffering, believe animals should keep being tested on to make sure it is a safe product for humans to use. Scientists and doctors recognize that while animals are indeed very similar to human beings, they are not identical. According to neurologist Aysha Akhtar, MD, MPH, “Some chemicals that are harmful to animals prove valuable when used by humans. Aspirin, for example, is dangerous for some animal species, and Fk-506 (tacrolimus), used to lower the risk of organ transplant rejection, was "almost shelved" because of animal test results.”[1] It is unlikely that most of the millions of lab animals killed yearly will have contributed to saving human life. In addition, some people believe that animal testing is necessary, so that scientist can find medicines, vaccines, or cures for humans. In this case animal testing should be permitted to a certain extent.
