“Twenty-five million animals are used for animal testing annually” and “only about 8% of the cures that work on animals will then work on humans” (Ericson). Animal testing is the use of animals as subjects to be tested on for medical research. Also, animal testing is used to find cosmetics effects on skin and eyes. Animal testing has very few benefits and very little information is gained from it, therefore limits need to be placed so the amount of animals killed each year in this cruel process will decrease.
Animal testing has been used for hundreds of years testing how cures affect living creatures and how cosmetic products work on skin and eyes. Animal testing has grown over the years since it has started and the amount of animals killed has gone up. Very few results are coming from animal testing yet it is still being used for many different cosmetic products and for medical research. Today many cosmetic companies test all their products on the skin or eyes of animals to see how it will affect them then they sell it in stores once they have ensured that it won't harm humans. Other animals that are not as commonly used are domesticated animals, and primates. Animals share many body characteristics with humans, so they are tested on to find cures for humans, yet humans could be tested on as well if they volunteer for it. Other new scientific inventions also exist now that could be used to do the exact same thing as animal testing, but it would not kill the animals. Scientists have created products like a “Chemosynthetic Liver” which can be used instead of running cures through an animal they can use this new chemosynthetic liver which is made from liver cells and no one is killed during the
