Marijuana, like most drugs was not thought of as a substance that could inflict harm to those who use it. It was not until 1937 that cannabis plant was banned. Cannabis has been traced back to the B.C era; the first record of its use was seed used for food and medicinal purposes by the Chinese, also some used it as a religious act to get closer to God. Others claim that psychedelic drugs such as cannabis were used to help make sense of the world. Marijuana was viewed as a versatile plant that was used for good rather than bad. The cannabis progressively traveled around the world. It went Asia to Europe then to South America and finally North America where it was introduced into the United States. Marijuana contains Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a chemical that mirrors the cannabinoid chemicals that are naturally produced by the body. The transportation of this controlled substance from Mexico in to the United States has significantly increased because of cartels, underground tunnels and the demand in today’s society. The demand for marijuana to be legalizes has been up for debate for quite some time and has even gone as far as granting two of the fifty states the liberty of using marijuana legal for recreational use. Today in the 21st century the most popular reason to use marijuana is for medicinal purposes. Medicinal marijuana has been a controversial topic in the United States. There are valid reasons for citizens utilize medical marijuana, such as cancer patients that are going through chemotherapy, HIV patients that need help with food intake, and patients with severe back pain etc. However, others argue that obtaining a medical cannabis card is relatively easy and can be abused and be used solely for recreational
