Individuals who support the legalization of marijuana for adults over the age of 21 believe that this would boost the economy and reduce crime as well as improve communities in society. Marijuana is one of the most influential illegal contraband in America; it flourishes in the underground market. The illegal profit and funds go to the criminals. If we legalized marijuana just as we have legalized tobacco and alcohol we could potentially regulate its use and help use the funds to improve our economy. The fact is people who use these drugs will use them whether they are legal or not, so why not benefit from the circumstances? Legal substances such as tobacco and alcohol are often times are abused by their users and result in major draw backs. For instances drunk driving is a major issue today. People have little self-control when it comes to these kinds of drugs and as a result put the lives of communities in danger. Individuals who support the legalization ultimately have the value of free will. We as human beings are all entitled to our free will and we cannot be controlled by anyone including society. If we give people what they desire, we can create a far more balanced society then if we were to restrict people and make circumstances worse as a result. Individuals who do not support the legalization have the value of morality. They believe that our society should not condone or support corrupt practices such as marijuana usage. People under this drugs influence do not display the ability to maintain ethical thinking and often abuse and cause greater harm to themselves and those they come in contact with. Both sides of this debate however value that we as human beings want to improve the economy and prevent corruption from occurring. They may differ in their way of making this reality but ultimately desire this
