Nearly eight million students currently participate in high school athletic in the United States. More than 480,000 compete as NCAA athletes. (www.ncaa.org). Sports help students to develop many skill and characteristic that carry throughout their life. The two articles that I have referred to my essay are "The Case Against High School Sports", by Amanda Ripley and "Psychological and Social Benefits of Playing True Sport", by The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
In high school, students have many opportunities to participate in athletic events. One of the most popular sports offered in high school across the United States is football. The list of life lessons the sport can teach is prolonged. Most people think that the long days and nights spent participating in high school football “pay off” after realizing the abilities they gained. High school football has the ability to transform irresponsible and unfocused students into responsible and perseverant athletes.
Recently I witnessed on social media a video of a children’s soccer game but a key object was missing, the ball. It was pitiful and the reasoning for it was it made sure every kid go to experience to score or have the quote-unquote ball to make them all feel important. In sports, there is supposed to be winners and losers and they're giving out participation awards to everyone and even the kids that worked hard get the same thing as the kids that were forced to play and this takes the drive to work hard out of the game. These parents modify the art of the game to fit their children's kids needs and they end up never having to face adversity or have to fight back when things get hard. So the question is today are
Lebrons James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett. Other than being all time greats these three players have one thing in common: they went straight from high school to the NBA. Over 40 players have skipped college and went straight to the NBA draft (Keusch). However, in 2005, then commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, passed a rule that required all athletes to be at least one year removed from High School before entering the NBA draft (Bonesteel). Forcing players to attend one year of college before getting their big pay day on draft night has been very controversial ever since the rule was passed.
Imagine this; kids being competitive, cheering for the school, and more of a bond, I think middle school sports should be allowed in Adams 12. Through the years I played sports sometimes I had a good experience, but other times I didn’t. I really enjoy your schools and all of the Adams 12 schools are running very smoothly and I don't feel unsafe. I would like if you bring back school sports. The reason for that is so kids can be more competitive, so more kids would be more active.
College Sports College sports are becoming more popular than ever in the United States. It’s attracting a lot of people, not only students, teachers and people close to the players. College sports games are covered by important TV sports channels. Thanks to it’s growing popularity, it has also attracted money. The earning that colleges receive from athletics programs, fees paid by TV networks and tickets to attend games have made college sports a successful business.
“Stop wishing, start doing”. I attend University of Wisconsin Parkside as a student- athlete. I will be playing on the baseball team as a shortstop and a second baseman. There’s a problem.. I am a freshman and as one I know that we are usually not starters.
Vince Lombardi said it best “if you accept losing, you can’t win”. Handing out participation trophies has a negative effect on them and shows that they accept losing. It gives the kid the wrong kind of praise and undermines the success of the children, then they begin to believe they should be rewarded for insignificant tasks. Giving kid’s participation awards don’t benefit those who receive them. It gives the child the wrong kind of commendation when they receive the awards.
In 2013, the Southern California branch of the American Youth Soccer Organization gave out 3,500 trophies, with each kid receiving a minimum of one (“Trophy Nation”). Whether kids got first or last, showed up for one game or all, they received trophies. In total, America spent over three billion dollars on participation trophies for youth sports that same year (Merryman, “Losing Is Good for You”). This over-accommodation of children by their parents and coaches has created kids who accept failure, are not motivated, and do not strive for perfection in their lives. We propose to the current parents and coaches of young athletes in St. Louis to stop over-praising their kids and instead to encourage the benefits that come from hard work and dedication.
High School Football Never in my life, will I experience anything better then playing high school football in your hometown on a friday night. The feeling you get looking up in the stands and seeing the people of your community cheering you on, has been and always will be the greatest feeling I’ve ever had. What really makes me happy, is how it brings people together. When it's the 4th quarter and we’re down by 3 but our offense can't be stopped on a drive to win the game, we are all one, cheering for the same thing.
Fact: “According to a 2013 report from the Institute of Medicine, physically active kids have more focus, are better problem solvers, and score higher on tests.” “A 2012 study by the Datalys Center found that young athletes have higher scores in math and English than those who don't participate in sports.” Argument 2: Sports gives a sense of equal opportunities to students. Fact: “Public schools are all about "equal opportunity.
Argumentative Research Essay Competitive Sports are Beneficial For Youth Competitive sports for youth have been under siege in our modern world. Many problems have risen over the years from the competition, ranging from concussions to an emphasis on athletics over education. However, these issues often overshadow the benefits from it, such as physical fitness, developing long lasting friendships with teammates, and a boost of self-confidence. Although competition in sports can lead to injuries, the positives from playing greatly outnumber the negatives.
Should children be focusing only on science and technology or should they also consider putting enormous efforts into mastering sports as well? While some progressively adore the ideology that young kids should focus more on studies than on sports and arts, others undoubtedly despise it. This essay will prudently persuade how sports and arts are equally critical as studies. Eminently qualified graduates not always end up in earning tremendous sums of money through their high-tech jobs. In other words, often students who study well do not end up graduating from college and also miss out no sports expertise.
Large numbers of schools around the world, but particularly in the U.S., give students the chance to partake in team sports after school, but this may not be as healthy for children as we thought. Since this may cause unfavorable effects, districts should eliminate after school sports to cut costs, make time for other academic activities, and eradicate the low grade average they are causing. Many may feel it is a wonderful idea for kids to play sports, but being involved in after school athletics may not be so great after all. According to an article by Amanda Ripley, sports can cost schools a great deal of money, up to $150,00 a year and by eradicating these sports, schools can save thousands of dollars (10).
Nearly all Americans love sports but is it really worth it. In this generation, competitive sports has become more dangerous than ever sports experts are starting to worry that competitive sports has a more negative effect than a positive effect on children. Most competitive sports can lead to severe injuries, pressure which can lead the youth using illegal drugs, and all the money parents spend on their kids to play sports is ridiculous, and worst of all most children are starting to burn out of sports emotionally and physically. Competitive sports do not have a positive effect on all children because of the cost, pressure/injury, and enjoyment. Most people can all agree that competitive sports are awesome, most people root for their favorite teams, they bet on it, and best of all it has amazing health benefits.
