It has been revealed in the Daily Mail News that the U.S. has one of the lowest rates of drinking in the world yet it also has one of the highest rates of alcohol related deaths. Exceptions such as parental consent, religious purposes, and educational purposes allowed minors to drink in 45 states according to Health Research Funding article. Although people and mainly parents disagree about the debate of altering the age for drinking, the law should be enacted because underage drinking is harming teenagers and 18 is the age of responsibility.

Kids and teenagers have been drinking in places such as basements and fraternity houses to hide from authority. These teenager’s actions have made them reckless and harmful. For example, the University of the South’s president has entailed that drinking is taking behind closed doors which is more dangerous. Schools, parties, and universities that have the ages between 18 and 20 are drinking being aware of the law.
The writer Justin McNaull explains how 18 is the “Age of Responsibility” for varied reasons and therefore they should be permitted to drink legally. For example McNaull explains how young adults can vote, enter legal contracts, and serve on military. Also McNaull mentions that many military personnel interrogated why they can fight wars but can’t visit a bar and drink one beer. The right for a 16 year old to get marry if he has his parent’s permission has questioned our laws. Many researchers and people who agree with lowering the drinking age have advocated that its hypocritical.
Alcohol related deaths and binge drinking seems like it will never vanish with law or no law.
Nevertheless the lower the age the less curiosity and the less accidents there will be. The Daily
