Philosophy of Worship
Introduction
When people think of Worship they have been accustomed to think of the 15 minutes of singing at the beginning of a worship gathering. They may even think that sometimes they plan ahead and sometimes they pick them on the spot. However, worship goes way beyond this way of thinking. Worship is a way of living; you prepare for it, participate in it and teach through it. If this is what we want to teach and convey then it is important that the language we use shape these ideals. I think there are many things to take into consideration when looking at context including things within our body and outside of it.
It is important to consider the Christian calendar when preparing for worship. There are many different events that we need to be using to shape our worship. The Christian calendar helps us to keep our eyes on Christ and the redemptive story of love that God has for his people. We want to help people know the proper times for engaging in the different events that form our Christian life.
There may be racial/ethnic context to be taken into consideration. It is unfair for us to just expect an African to conform to everything we do in the Anglo American Church without. There is value in observing other cultures and even integrating aspects of their practices into our normal patterns of worship. I want to give platform for other contexts and cultures to form the context I serve in. Inviting them to participate in worship together through song, word and prayer. The ways in which we engage people that are alike and different from us matter. The words we use matter. The way we lead matters. Unity among our body matters. Though there are many diversities; those are not the things that define us. We are able to worship together in unity because Jesus is our Lord, the Spirit has equipped us with gifts and we are called to serve each other in love (Class notes, NT roots). Worship is a lot more than just standing up and playing the four songs we are most comfortable with each Sunday. It is about participating with the creator of the universe who continually picks his forgetting people up and reminds them of his love. As I strive to be an intentional, well prepared and spirit-filled worship leader I am reminded of these
