Philosophy Statement

Because I do not possess a formal academic background in teacher education, my educational philosophy has been molded by my education in mathematics and finance as well as my past educational jobs. I challenge my students to be at their best every single day. Even though students may not be aspiring mathematical scientists, every student can try their best and participate in the class. It is from my experiences that providing students with the expectation that they give you their best work at all times has a positive impact on students. I’ve seen students accomplish great things and have a sense of achievement in my classes. In every position I’ve held with the academic responsibility for students, I pushed them to be at their best by noticing their strengths and utilizing them for success in the course.

The safety of students is a high priority and I take it very seriously. The safety of student has a variety of forms and I’ve noticed there are a few students that do not feel safe in asking questions in front of their peers. Just as I believe students will be more successful if they give me their best, my best will provide students to an inclusive education, to ensure their questions, comments, and concerns are taken into high consideration, and be prepared for any situation that could occur in the classroom. During the lectures, I never justify the material with the statement “it is because it is.” In every topic I give full, in-depth explanations of the material as well as the logic behind the concept. My goal for all of my classes is to teach ways of analyzing and thinking, not mere memorization of problems and their solutions. It is important that students have the tools to solve a variety of
