Teaching Philosophy Statement

Before I began my first semester of teaching, I decided to set some goals to help me work toward becoming the teacher my students need and deserve. One of those goals is to ensure all of my students succeed academically. I believe that the purpose of education is to promote and ensure academic success for all learners; therefore, I want to give all of my students an equal opportunity to gain the knowledge, strategies, and the experiences they need to succeed in the forthcoming semester and through their lives.

All I could think of was how I would soon be having a classroom full of third graders. What even worried me more was the fact that this package included parents too! Many questions pop into my mind, such as “What will I say to them? How do I talk to parents? Shortly, I realized that the parents and I shared one thing in common. We both strive to give our students the best education they deserve. My process in reaching out to parents is slow but I feel confident and assured I will get there. I know that in order to get the parents involved in classroom activities they have to feel comfortable around me and around the classroom. I began to open up to parents and make them feel welcome. I have many parents that often come to the classroom to either drop off their child or to pick them up. I have noticed that these parent contacts have made a huge difference with my student’s attitude and behavior. I also began to share with parents if their child has done something good during that school day. I think sharing the positive things with parents as well as the negative is very helpful because parents always enjoy hearing when their child has done something nice. With these actions in mind, I noticed that parents began to feel relaxed when they came to the classroom or when they come to see me. I gladly look forward to seeing the parents come into the classroom and field trips to provide their support and encouragement for all activities in the classroom. The link between school and home is a strong connection that reinforces what the students are learning in the classroom. The parents’ support, motivation, and encouragement will allow it to be a great educational success and a wonderful learning experience for all of my
