Physics Major And Math Minor At Georgia College & State University

771 Words4 Pages

I am a physics major and math minor at Georgia College & State university focusing on classes that deal with astronomy. I have taken observational techniques in astronomy a couple semesters prior and I will be taking an astrophysics class next semester. I have been interested in astronomy and cosmology for the majority of my life watching documentaries and various videos on topics ranging from star formation, to black holes, to string theory. This past year was my first time taking classes that actually deal with the math behind many of the videos I had watched throughout my life and being able to start understanding how and why certain phenomena are the way they are has been a great joy for me. In high school for the year I was allowed to pick my science classes I picked chemistry and biology and was not allowed to add physics as a third. …show more content…

The physics labs took place in the university’s physics lab while the chemistry lab was for an online class where I had to purchase a kit and designate an area in my home to set up and perform all labs.
For math I have taken Calculus I through III, Linear algebra, and differential equations making an A in each of the courses. The logical reasoning behind mathematics has always interested me and being able to apply it to physics has been one of my favorite parts of being a physics major. It has also helped me to better understand both the math involved and the physical processes themselves.
Looking forward I hope to be able to go to grad school for astrophysics and work toward a PhD. From there I would like to get a job at an observatory doing research or educating the public to the wonders of astronomy. I would also love to one day help work toward finding a formula for the theory of everything and I feel like astronomy is one of the best fields to study in order to gain the insight needed to work on
