Introduction: The world of social media is interconnected through various ways of sharing information about oneself. That information arranges from daily statues, photos, videos, blog posts, interests, and thoughts on different subject matters. These options of shareable information through social media seem to be a true feature for sites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram. However, social media sites like Pinterest take the sharing of information to a whole new interactive level. Due to the popularity of the social media site there is a high chance that this academic library might have several clients using the site. This would be an opportunity for the library to interact and serve their clients in a new innovated way that allows for outreach and education practices (Hansen, 2012). For these reasons the University of Regina Library decided to have a beta test of a Pinterest account to see if the social media platform will help boost services, create better interaction with clients, and exhibit future uses for the library’s Pinterest account like for research purposes and community building. After using various methods of research for the beta version of the library’s Pinterest site like documentation on visitors to the page, investigating how Pinterest deals with copyright, and pins from publisher Pinterest accounts like Random House that the library could repin to their account without a problem. The University of Regina Library launched their Pinterest account in April 2012, and by October 2012 they would have over 160 followers and more than 500 items mixed in about 40 different pinboards (Hansen, 2012). Now their Pinterest account remains as a way to inform patrons and potential patrons about recent books additions, programs or events that upcoming, and as a platform to showcase the materials that are found in the university’s
