“The highest form of pure thought is in mathematics.” – Plato. One of the first things everyone learns when they are growing up is math. It impacts our lives in many different ways each and every day. Without the brilliant mathematicians who formed the ideas and concepts that we use and teach in this day and age it’s hard to imagine where we would be as a mathematical society today. One of most prominent mathematicians known is Plato. The ancient Greek philosopher, Plato, was born in approximately 428 B.C.E. He was a student of Socrates and was the teacher of Aristotle. Plato was born and raised in Athens, Greece. However, he also traveled and lived in Egypt, Sicily and Italy. Throughout his life Plato made many contributions to the specializations of science, math, and philosophy. Plato later died in approximately 348 B.C.E. …show more content…

The other mathematicians include: Pythagoras, Eudoxus, and Archytas. Born in 570 B.C.E and later dying in 495 B.C.E. Pythagoras is highly known for his discovery of the Pythagorean Theorem (a2 + b2 = c2). The Pythagorean Theorem is one of the most well-known and widespread mathematical formulas. Eudoxus was born in 408 B.C.E and died in 355 B.C.E. Eudoxus developed the method of exhaustion. The method of exhaustion is a form of discovering the area of a shape by finding the area of a series of polygons that fit inside the given shape. Archytas was born in 428 B.C.E. and died in 347 B.C.E. He is well-known for creating and crafting the Archytas curve. All of these mathematicians were taught and attended Plato’s
