The person I chose to interview is Les Kerr, the coordinator for the Law Enforcement Community Coordination Unit (LECC) for the Western District of the US Attorney’s Office located in Kansas City, Missouri. The LECC’s goal is to foster inter-agency cooperation between various federal, state, and local law enforcement entities, and promote training that addresses various challenges in law enforcement today. The LECC also assists local community-based organizations to combat issues that they face in their community. The LECC is the Attorney General’s Office (AG) liaison for law enforcement and community groups.

Law enforcement is constantly changing. Criminals are incredibly smart when it comes to committing crimes and hiding their tracks, and the legislature and court system at the state and federal level are constantly changing what can and cannot be done by law enforcement. To be a productive and effective police officer means to stay on top of statute changes, case law, and new way that criminals commit crimes. While I have known Mr. Kerr for several years and I have a friendly professional relationship with him, he still had to follow the rules established by the AG’s Office to be able to answer my questions.
