During World War 2, the United States and Soviets were allied as they had common enemies. In the war, the United States saw major differences in government and also the Soviet ambition to become the world power. These ambitions became clearer as the Soviets took control of East Europe after the war and made them communist states. The United States came up with the Containment policies to prevent the spread of communism. The ways that the United States uses to contain communism are through aid supplies, aid forces to fight, and negotiation. The first way that the United States contains communism is aid supplies to its allies and other democratic places. After World War 2, Berlin was split into two main parts. The west was controlled by the United States and its allies, and the east was controlled by the Soviets. On June 27, 1948 the Soviet blockaded any shipments coming to west Berlin (Document B). West Berlin was surrounded by the Soviets and might take over and become a communist state by the Soviets. The United States and its allies support west Berlin through air, flying in the supplies to west Berlin. Korea was split into two, North was communist and South was democratic. North Korea made a surprise attack and invaded South Korea. North Korea pushes South Korea all the way to Busan. The United States forces occupying Japan after WW2 are sent to defend South Korea (Document C). With the United States help, South Korea successfully counterattacked and pushed North Korea back.
